Terms of Service
What Cedar is
Cedar reads documents aloud: PDFs, EPUBs, articles, pasted text, scanned pages, and free public-domain books. Your account and library live on the Cedar service so they follow you across devices.
Your content
What you import stays yours, and it's your responsibility. You choose what to bring into Cedar; we don't review, screen, or endorse it, and the audio is generated automatically from your text. By importing something you confirm you have the right to use it and that it's legal where you live and in Canada, where Cedar operates. We store it only to provide the service — to generate audio, keep your place, and sync your library. We don't sell it, share it, or use it to train anything.
What isn't allowed
Cedar is a private reader, and what adults read is their own business. The one hard line is content that's illegal to possess or store — in particular any sexual content involving minors, including fiction. If we become aware of it we'll remove it, close the account, and report it where the law requires. We may also remove content or suspend accounts that break these terms or expose Cedar to legal risk.
Fair use
Free accounts include a monthly listening allowance. Please don't script against the service, resell access, or import content you don't have the right to use. Accounts that abuse the service can be suspended.
The service
Cedar is provided as-is. We work to keep it fast and available, but we can't promise uninterrupted service, and features may change as the app evolves. If we ever discontinue the service we'll give you notice so you can export what's yours.
Voice credits
Some Cedar voices are generated with Pocket TTS (Kyutai, huggingface.co/kyutai/pocket-tts), licensed CC BY 4.0 (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0). Voices based on recordings licensed CC BY 4.0: Alba — recordings by Alba MacKenna (huggingface.co/kyutai/tts-voices); Anna, Vera, Fantine, Eponine, Azelma, Mary, Jane, Eve, Charles, Paul, George and Michael — CSTR VCTK Corpus, Centre for Speech Technology Research, University of Edinburgh (datashare.ed.ac.uk/handle/10283/3443); Daan — CML-TTS dataset (openslr.org/146). Kyutai turned the recordings into voice profiles; the speech is generated by the model, and these speakers did not record your text.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Cedar isn't liable for content users import or for any loss arising from your use of the service, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the past 12 months. If your content or your use of Cedar leads to a legal claim against us, you agree to cover the resulting costs. These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada.
Your account
You must be 13 or older to use Cedar; if you're under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent's or guardian's permission. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app or by contacting us; deleting it removes your documents and listening data from our servers.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version and the date it was last updated are always on our terms page and in the app. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Cedar after that means you accept the new version.
